Cotton lingerie and homewear: an undeniable success story
Cotton’s hypoallergenic, absorbent and breathable properties make it one of the most popular textiles for lingerie and homewear. Used pure or blended with other textile fibres, it gives greater elasticity and a soft silhouette that won’t irritate the most intimate parts of your body.
As you may have already noticed, panties are often labelled « 100% cotton lined bottom ». As they are in direct contact with the mucous membranes, they need to provide all-day comfort. Guaranteeing comfort and sensuality with quality fabrics is the prerogative of the big brands. Like LOU or La Perla, they offer us the very best in seductive cotton lingerie..
Oscalito, Calida and the many other top-of-the-range signatures referenced on Glamuse are inevitably the muse brands of cocooning homewear. Cotton pajamas and babydolls will be your best allies for cosy nights in this season.
The origins of cotton
Cotton is the plant fibre that surrounds the seeds of the cotton plant, a shrub in the Malvaceae family. It grows in tropical regions with hot, humid climates. Its fruits are capsules, each containing around thirty seeds surrounded by an abundance of down.
Cotton has been used to make clothes for thousands of years: the Egyptians probably knew about this textile fibre more than 12,000 years before Christ. Archaeologists have found fragments of this fabric dating back around 7,000 years in Mexico, and we know from ancient texts that the cotton plant has been cultivated in India for more than 3,000 years.
Cotton has played a major role in history. The cotton industry was one of the driving forces behind the industrial revolution in Europe in the 19th century.
Today, cotton is the world’s leading textile fibre, accounting for almost half of global consumption. T-shirts, dresses, leggings, pajamas and panties… This natural plant-based material, made exclusively from pure cellulose, is a staple of our wardrobes and offers a host of advantages that make it an indisputable favourite.
Focus on its many properties
The claim that cotton is one of the most comfortable materials is indisputable, and with good reason.

1. Very gentle on the skin: Cotton is hypoallergenic and does not irritate even the most sensitive skin, where some fabrics can go so far as to cause problems such as allergies or, in rare cases, dermatological diseases.
2. Keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter: Cotton is a highly absorbent fabric that has a cooling effect because it absorbs moisture and lets the body breathe. It also insulates by retaining warm air on contact with the body.
3. Easy care: Cotton fabrics are durable and highly resistant to most forms of abrasion.
How do you care for cotton lingerie?
One of the many advantages of cotton is that it’s easy to wash. Cotton lingerie is not fragile and can be machine-washed at 40 degrees. For plain white underwear, you can go up to 60°C, or even 90°C.
Note, however, that the higher the temperature, the more likely it is that the fabric will stretch (but the more bacteria will be eliminated). You can always refer to the care code on the label, with pictograms advising you on the optimum temperature. However, avoid washing too often, as this will damage the fabric.
Bleach can be used without risk on white cotton. On the other hand, avoid chlorine-based bleaching agents, which slowly burn the cotton fibre and cause lasting damage. Use a colour-preserving stain remover on coloured cottons. Be careful, as cotton fibres are not elastic, the garment can easily wrinkle and the fabric may need to be ironed often.
Day or night, summer or winter, cotton cares for your skin and ensures optimum comfort.
