Marjolaine Lingerie is above all a story…
… a family story: a success story of pure passion for three generations
Founded in 1934 in the Lyon suburb of Villeurbanne, Marjolaine was originally a small local shop run by Jeanne and her husband René Millet-Desdoitils. At the time, they sold simple woollens, layettes and tapestries. But faced with post-war shortages, women’s lingerie was in desperately short supply. Suppliers were no longer able to replenish their stocks.
To meet the ever-increasing demand from his customers, René decided to make his own models: simple babydolls with a few lace adornments to make them more feminine and attractive.

With his ambition and his talent still in its infancy but already acclaimed, he developed new models that were ever more elaborate and delicate, incorporating new materials. It didn’t take long for word of mouth to spread beyond the local area.
Marjolainegradually became a recognised French specialist in nightwear, and the company’s own brand was born, taking off in the long term.

Proud of its heritage and expertise, the company has remained family-owned ever since. The company is now run by the third generation, represented by Carole (granddaughter of the designer) and her husband Stéphane Guérin, Managing Director. Their daughter has also joined the adventure, joining the Marjolaine team of designers.
Together, and forever united, they perpetuate the art of refinement with their choice of silk lingerie blended with a selection of noble materials and colour.
… as well as lace, tradition and transmission
Driven by know-how like no other, Marjolaine‘s talented team still hand-make and assemble their designs in their Villeurbanne workshop. Finishing Calais lace inlay on a luxurious silk satin is a true art, where each piece is cut and fitted by hand by Marjolaine’s experienced seamstresses.
Mastering this vanishing skill requires flawless dexterity and precision. Many hours of training are essential to master the assembly techniques on unique antique sewing machines, such as the « Cornely ». As these machines are no longer being manufactured and are therefore virtually impossible to find these days, existing examples require meticulous maintenance.
