In the first part of her exclusive interview, Dita Von Teese revealed to Glamuse the secrets behind her atypical personal journey: confidences punctuated by tender anecdotes that reveal the true personality of this indefatigable lover of femininity at its best. Here, the evangelist of glamour shares her most precious advice on lingerie at a time when she is currently staging a breathtaking show in her permanent residence in Las Vegas
What lingerie essentials do you think every woman should have?
I love classic black lace lingerie. It’s essential that it’s perfectly fitted and adapted to the wearer’s morphology. We’re lucky to live in an age where we don’t have to choose between casual, everyday lingerie and sexy, glamorous lingerie. We can afford anything!
I have the feeling that French women have always operated according to this logic. It’s different in the US, but it seems to me that attitudes are slowly changing. I remember that in the 1990s, I was always on the lookout for French brands because all the beautiful, perfectly-cut bras were French at the time. When I was at lycée, I saved up to buy a model by the lingerie brand Lou… It was my favourite brand of lingerie at the time. On my first trip to Paris, I didn’t know where to turn. Every day I was in a different lingerie shop! I discovered so many beautiful brands… I was always on the lookout for rare pieces, and of course vintage lingerie and homewear/loungewear from the 1940s and 1950s.
And don’t even get me started on my obsession with hand-sewn couture stockings. They’re something I think every woman should have in her underwear drawer. The detail, the delicate rustle they make when you cross your legs… I’ve been wearing couture stockings since the early 1990s.
That’s one of the reasons why I designed the garter belts in my eponymous lingerie line with six fastenings: 3 for each leg, with one fastening at the front, one at the back AND one at the side. This feature has become my trademark for all my collections. I really needed a well-designed garter belt to keep my stockings straight and snug, and I was exasperated by all the frivolous models that are still everywhere today and which are totally non-functional, unless you’re only wearing them for a naughty night out or to pose for photos.
I simply prefer to be me, wearing beautiful, sensual lingerie that suits me, rather than models that don’t look like me, just to be desirable in a man’s eyes. That seems too artificial to me, and for me, seduction is about creating a mystical aura, one that inexorably draws someone to you to get to know you better… There’s no better way to enjoy the moment than to truly be yourself. Pleasure is something you give yourself first and foremost. Life is too short to save precious moments for others.
What advice would you give to a woman who wants to buy lingerie?
Personally, I always buy two types of panties for each bra. And it’s even better if you can create two different styles with the same set.
The first thing to do is to make sure that your lingerie fits you perfectly. There’s no reason to suffer, or to wear a bra that doesn’t curve perfectly. To achieve this, you have to accept that from time to time you need to have your measurements taken and try on other cup sizes, even if the new bust size or cup letter is unpleasant…
I’d advise against wearing lingerie that’s too small. I used to only wear a size S, and one day I realised that I wasn’t a size S but a size M. In the end, I was SO relieved not to be wearing lingerie that was too tight!
But if I had to pick just one, my most valuable piece of advice would be to get out of your comfort zone by trying on models that are different from what you’re used to wearing, and try to wear lingerie that’s more colourful and out of the ordinary. For example, green, which at first glance seems less conventional. For me, green lingerie is a real obsession. I can’t stop creating models that aren’t in these shades, or wearing them! This colour is just perfect for summer, spring and even winter.

What is your favourite piece of lingerie from all your collections and why?
I love my ‘Tryst‘ collection… especially the garter belt. The lace is so delicate. And of course « Madame X » is a must-have for me, it’s a line that’s becoming a favourite for women who cultivate the pin-up side and practice burlesque. I love seeing their photos where you can see that they’ve added crystals for their stage performances.

I’m terribly excited about the new materials and laces I’ve found for my next collections. I can’t wait to share them with you on Glamuse.
Why did you choose Glamuse to be the exclusive ambassador for your lingerie brand in France?
I love the fact that Glamuse lists all the best and biggest brands on a single site. And of all the outlets in the world that stock my lingerie, Glamuse is the one that offers the widest range, with different models and sizes, colours and styles. So a lot of my devoted fans are Glamuse customers because the site is the first to offer all the latest trends, before the other sites and boutiques. Personally, I love using the Glamuse app for my shopping.

I’m a big fan of the Marjolaine silk babydolls, and I love discovering new styles from my favourite brands.
